In my solo work I research how to build a 'space for encounter' that calls for participation of the audience through a choreography of experience. My movement practice aims to attain an experience of connection with all the living and being. I search for this kind of space for emptiness and fulfillment by moving and making sounds out of movement patterns that are mainly motion or migration of cells in the evolution, and in the development of the embryo and fetus.
I aim to find a choreographic form where my own tremoring body would open the possibility for the viewer's kinesthetic sympathy. I will position myself as a co-mover, to be touched, seen and heard, sensed in every way and from different distances. I research a way to perform as a fore-experiencer, as a guide. An installation-like choreographic form has been my interest in my work for several years. The form creates politics of the performance, where the bodily participation and choice-making comes horizontally part of the viewer's experience. The horizontal is aesthetically and kinesthetically directly in connection with the question of anthropocentric worldview that centralizes power.
From the beginning on, the audience members are part of the making of the choreography and as such the process is shared and co-lived. In the midst of the practice I will discuss with the viewers about their experiences and we might use the act of writing as a help to unfold the experience.
Welcome to observe Kati's research at the Taide Vionoja:
Kati does her artistic research at the Taide Vionoja from 30.6. between Tuesday and Sunday at 11 am - 2 pm and at 5 pm - 6 pm (sat 4.7. only at 11 am - 2 pm).
(During the working period there's a traditional entrance fee to the gallery and museum space.)
I am a Helsinki based choreographer, performance artist, dance and yoga teacher, and a thinker that likes to write.
In my artistic work I'm situated between genres of art, and I focus specifically on the questions of ecology and working with different kinds of groups of people and communities. In my work I research the ways in which the social field could be considered and organised in a more equal way through each performance or each process. To me, choreography is change or movement in observations, space and time.
My most important works have been Kvartetto (Winterdance in Kokkola 2019), Acts of care (circus Maximus 2017-2019), Non-humane island (Reality Research Center 2016-2017), Yhteis(ty)ö (Zodiac - Center for New Dance 2016) and Titled (Theater Academy 2014). I'm in charge of the yoga teacher training in the The Folk Highschool of Central Ostrobothnia and I'm one of the artistic directors for the dance festival Winterdance in Kokkola.
